A Beautiful hike starting from Emporios towards Komi. Focal points the 2 medieval Watch Towers of Emporios, the awesome view of the area from above and the little amazing bay called “kleftolimano”.

The Watch Towers, the locals called them “Vigles” are circular, stone towers constructed on the island’s capes, shores, and hills. Their main purpose was to monitor the agean sea for pirates. 

As soon as they were spotted, they lit up a big flame, which meant the danger. One after another, all the towers lit up a great flame and in a short while all the inhabitants of the island were notified. The communication was possible either bu using the fire at night or smoke signals in the day time.
